REFUNDS/CANCELLATIONS/DEFERRAL

  • If you need to cancel, please email us at registration@bsim.org to inform us of your cancellation.
  • The Big Sur Marathon Foundation is a nonprofit organization with a strict no refund and no transfer policy. This policy is clearly stated on our website, and you must acknowledge it by checking a box during registration.
  • Deferrals are not available for the Relay, 21-Miler, 11-Miler, 12K, or 5K events. For questions regarding Marathon deferrals, please email us at registration@bsim.org.

DISTANCE CHANGE POLICIES

  • A limited number of category changes (upgrades/downgrades) will be available from March 3, 2027 – March 10, 2027. If slots are available in your desired race category (distance), you will be able to initiate the category change from your haku participant account for a $20 administrative fee. Marathon and Relay distances are not available for upgrades. If the price of the new race category is higher than the original category, you will also pay the price difference. If the price in the new category is lower than your original category, there is no credit provided. The inventory of available slots will fluctuate based on the category changes of other participants, so check back often.
  • Click here for instructions on how to upgrade/downgrade your registration.

PREGNANCY DEFERRAL

  • Registrants who are pregnant and are unable to participate in the race can click here to read our Pregnancy Deferral Policy.

REGISTRATION PROTECTION

  • During the registration process you will have the opportunity to purchase Protecht Registration Protection for an additional fee. Please see this PDF for all FAQs on Registration Protection. For a full copy of their policy please click here. The Big Sur Marathon Foundation office has no access or influence with regard to their process.

BANDITS & BIB SWITCHING

  • While it may seem like no big deal to run without registering (a bandit) or give or sell your race bib to another person, it does present serious issues to both the race organizers and the participant field. Race results and finisher’s awards can be impacted and medical staff might not be able to identify a participant in need of treatment on the course. It is imperative that the person wearing the bib and taking part in the race is the same person that is in our registrant database.

If a person is caught wearing a bib that is registered to someone else, both parties will be banned from participating in all Big Sur events for a period of one year. The person wearing the bib will also be disqualified from any official results.

BIB PICK-UP

  • Bibs and shirts must be picked up in person at the Expo. You must bring your photo ID & your check-in pass to pick up your bib. Each runner must pickup their own bib, friends and family are NOT permitted to pickup a bib on behalf of another participant. No exceptions. You will receive an email with your check-in pass (QR code and bib number) several times leading up to the event.
