Join HydraPak and the Big Sur Marathon Foundation’s efforts to reduce single-use water cups.

Registered participants in the 2024 BSIM Event are invited to opt-in to a cupless racing experience. The first 550 participants that need to pick up a cup at the expo will receive a custom Big Sur branded cup and anyone else that needs a cup will receive the same color, but seasonally branded HydraPak SpeedCup for use at aid stations in lieu of single-use cups. By opting in, you will receive a HydraPak coupon for new hydration gear to train and race with.

Why Should I Run a Cupless Race?

Runners can reduce waste and their environmental footprint by choosing to run a cupless race. Instead of using multiple single-use cups, runners carry a HydraPak SpeedCup or other hydration device for filling at aid stations.

HydraPak and the Big Sur Marathon Foundation are aiming for a 33% opt-in rate for participants across all race weekend events, thereby eliminating tens of thousands of single use cups on course.

What is a SpeedCup?

HydraPak’s collapsible and reusable SpeedCup was designed specifically for runners as an alternative to single-use cups at race events. Lightweight and flexible, it can be collapsed and stuffed in pockets or carried using the integrated finger loop.

Be sure to have your SpeedCup or hydration vessel accessible as you approach each aid station – volunteers will be prepared to quickly fill up your cup as you run by.

How Do I Sign Up?

Purchase the cupless opt-in product on your haku registration account for $5.

Participants can continue to take the pledge at the Expo, however, cup will be limited. Additional hydration options and systems will be available for purchase at the Expo.
