John Duddy has been an integral part of the Big Sur International Marathon (BSIM) since 2020, contributing to various aspects of race operations. He first supported the Marathon Start before taking on responsibilities for the Half Marathon’s Pacific Grove section, Marathon Caravan staging, and ultimately the Half and Full Marathon Starts. A dedicated member of the running community, John moved to Carmel in 2020 to be closer to the events he’s passionate about.
John’s experience in race management spans decades. He served as Race Director for the inaugural Atlanta Mile in 1995 and spent more than 10 years on the Peachtree Road Race Committee, where he was Start Director and also led Runner Control, Parking, and Start Line volunteer coordination. He has also worked the Atlanta Marathon Start for several years and volunteered with the Joggin’ for Frogmen 5K in San Diego. A lifelong runner himself, John has been hitting the pavement since 1975.
Before his work in the running industry, John had a distinguished career as an executive at Boeing. He served as Chairman of the Board for Aviation Aerospace Australia, a nonprofit funded by the Victorian Government, while leading Boeing’s Commercial Airplane Business in Australia. Under his leadership, the organization expanded across much of the country, securing support primarily from aerospace companies.
Now retired from Boeing, John continues to lend his expertise to the aerospace industry. He currently serves on the Board of EPC Aerospace and as a Board Advisor to Belcan, an engineering services company.
